PROGRAM INFORMATION

WHY:

Art in buildings creates interesting human spaces. Art in a building can spark the imagination, inspire wonder, sooth the soul and transform a room from a space into a unique aesthetic adventure. The purpose of The Art Parts project is to connect homeowners and building professionals with local and regional artists whose art or craft can be incorporated into building design and construction.

WHAT:

Art Parts can be interior or exterior, can be incorporated into the structure of a building or included after construction, can be functional or decorative, or both. Art Parts are limited only by the imagination, but may include furniture, doors, countertops, hardware, railings, light fixtures, floor and wall finishes, tiles, grates, stone work, windows, switch plates, murals, mosaics, or any other inspired creation.

WHO:

The program is designed to promote employment opportunities for local Whidbey Island artists as well as regional artists from Jefferson, Island, Snohomish and San Juan counties. Any professional artist/craftsperson living in the area may apply. Applicants will be selected based on the quality of their work and relevant experience, however, applied experience is not required.

WHERE:

A permanent display has been established in the Bayview Arts store at Bayview Corner. It will consist of a computer and printer where all of the information and images from artists and craftspeople will be accessible to the public. Additionally, this information will appear on The Art Parts web site, www.artparts.org. Each artist will be featured on an individual web page with an artist statement, images and descriptions of his or her work, contact information, and links to further pictures or information.

COST:

An annual $25.00 fee is required for all participating artist to help offset the cost of the program and the web site. An additional $10.00 will be charged for each change or update requested by the artist to his or her web page. Please call or e-mail for more details.

PROCESS:

Applications can be downloaded from the website or can be picked up in person at Bayview Arts. Mail application to: The Art Parts
Project, PO Box 114, Langley WA 98260, or drop off in person at Bayview Arts. If you have any questions or need help, please call (360) 321-8414 or visit www.artparts.org for more details. Applications will be accepted at any time. The website will be updated approximately every other month.

CONDITIONS:

All applications will be juried by The Art Parts Project representatives. Applications will be judged on the following criteria: Artists and craftspersons must be residing in Island, Jefferson, San Juan, or Snohomish county, and willing to work with greater Whidbey Island building professionals and home owners. They must also demonstrate an ability to participate in and execute a commissioned project. We will be looking for relevant experience in this area, however, applied experience in not required.
Their artwork or craft must be suitable for inclusion in architectural design, ornamentation or embellishment, and/or artwork or craft suitable for a significant addition to a living space or environment. Their work must be original in nature and artistic in quality and workmanship.

All applicants must demonstrate a level of professionalism appropriate for public review and client interaction.

No artist or craftsperson will be rejected based sex, race or economic conditions. If economic conditions restrict artist or craftperson from the ability to apply or provide appropriate materials for the program, The Art Parts Project (based on merit of artists or craftspersons work) will, when possible, provide assistance.

The Art Parts Project does not participate in any client - artist relationship agreements for work. The Art Parts Project is simply a resource for viewing and finding artists and craftspeople. The Art Parts Project will in no way be involved in any negotiations, agreements, or contracts either written or verbal between clients and artists.

We reserve the right to use any of the submitted artists images for the purpose of The Art Parts Project web site design, promotional materials and marketing efforts.

The Art Parts Project is an economic development project of the Goosefoot Community Fund.
