I design and fabricate public and privately
commissioned pictorial fused glass wall panels and murals.
I sprinkle and layer crushed colored glass onto a clear piece
of glass in a manner similar to sand painting. I fuse this
in an electric kiln at a temperature of 1550 degrees F. This
is then cooled and flipped over and fused a second time creating
depth in my tiles. I also include gold leaf, silver foil,
and metallic coated glass known as dichroic.
Fused glass is
very durable, never fades and is easy to clean. It resists
vandalism as well as most materials including
ceramics and wood. All that is needed is glass cleaner
and a soft cloth to maintain it. I create my murals in removable
sections that you can easily hang or mount to your wall.
I design these pieces to be shipped by United Parcel Service
and for easy installation. Once I shipped a 6' x 10' mural
to Juneau, Alaska, flew there on an airplane, installed
it
in two hours, and then went out to dinner.
When I create a
commission I welcome your ideas, themes, and input. During
the past 20 years I have worked with art
committees, architects, material and structural engineers,
on 12 public commissions including the glass mural that
surrounds the International Arrivals Gateway at the SeaTac
Airport.
I have also created over 50 private commissions for offices
and homes, and more than 100 pieces that have been sold
through galleries. Using the glass techniques that I have
developed,
I enjoy creating colorful fused glass murals that cause
chuckles, smiles, and thoughtful reflection.
